EE

Jesus said in Luke 10:2, "... The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."

Evangelism Explosion (EE) is a training and equipping ministry with a primary focus to:
  • equip laypeople to effectively share the Gospel with non-Christians and to see witnessing become a way of life for every Christian.
  • make disciples of new believers.
  • become a trainer so that they in turn can train others.

EE consists of theory and practical activities called "On the Job Training" (or OJT). XEE (EE for Generation X) sessions are organised into semesters of about 8 weeks each.

EE @ EEFC - How Did It Start?

Emmanuel EFC Wangsa Maju implemented EE to equip and train its members after David Low completed his 5 days EE clinic at FGT, Subang Jaya in September 2003.

Being the only teacher-trainer at that time, David commenced the 1st semester after recruiting two trainees. The team faithfully trained together on Thursday nights and went for OJTs. It was “hard work” since this was the first time we were using EE.

However we were encouraged by Pastor Voon that “EE is about making disciples, and that it will take time and we have to pay the price in sacrifice if we are to achieve anything great for God."

Picture below shows Sis Grace Tang receiving her certificate from Rev. Voon Yuen Woh, Chairman of EE Malaysia.

By God’s grace, we completed our 1st semester in February 2004. Later both trainees testified that the 3 hours spent on Thursday nights turned out to be most exciting time of the week.

Subsequently all the three of us enlisted 6 more trainees for the 2nd semester which started from 27 March to 3 July 2004. There was much excitement and enthusiasm within the church by now as more members get involved as prayer partners and some invited the EE teams to share the gospel with their unsaved loved ones, relatives and friends.

The Holy Spirit worked in a marvellous way as two of the trainers and two church members were inspired and motivated to sign up for the 5-day EE clinic at FGT, Subang Jaya on 2-6 August, 2004. Praise the Lord for now we have 5 teacher-trainers and 6 EE trainers.

On 14 August 2004, we celebrated the graduation of the 6 trainees together with some 60 church members (picture above). Many were encouraged by the testimonies shared by the six trainees. Pastor Voon shared the main message and encouraged us to press on in sharing the gospel and be excited by the ‘cries of new born babies’ as we faithfully go out to witness.

The night ended with our (now former) Senior Pastor Phillip Koh sharing on the effectiveness of EE in the multiplication of disciples. Many of our church members were motivated to join the 3rd semester.

“Indeed the Lord does His work in His timing. Even though people may not respond to the gospel being shared, we are to remain faithful to His service and labour on for Him”, as one brother encouraged the EE teams to press on for Christ.

David Low Explains What EE is all About

David Low was a quantity surveyor by profession. In 2002 he was appointed to lead the Evangelism and Community Outreach Ministry in Emmanuel EFC, Wangsa Maju, the church he has been worshipping in since 1984 when he came to KL to work. He is married to Kim Kee and God has blessed them with four children, Abigail, Alicia, Joel and Joshua.

David is now EEFC Wangsa Maju's full time Elder and Church Administrator.

What is EE?

EE stands for Evangelism Explosion. Founded in 1963 by Dr. D. James Kennedy as a non-profit corporation, EE is an international ministry which seeks to train and equip church leaders and ordinary believers for evangelism and discipleship. EE is dynamic and not a canned approach to evangelism. Over the past several decades, God has spread this ministry to all the 211 nations of the world.

EE is a church-based ministry, purposely designed never to supplant any denominational distinctives or ministries. It seeks to enhance and support all other church work. To date over 200 denominations are using EE in their churches.

How EE Works

There are three things needed to get going in evangelism—the Holy Spirit, know-how and confidence. God gives the Holy Spirit. EE can provide you with the know-how and confidence!

3-Member Teams

The basic unit of EE discipleship is the three-member team. Each team is led by a person who has completed one semester of EE. He then recruits two members to serve as his trainees for one semester. The trainer serves to not only provide a good example, but also to offer encouragement, prayer and personal assistance.

Incremental

The training is accomplished in a 13-week semester. The trainee begins by memorizing only a basic gospel outline. Through the 13-weeks, he will learn to methodically add illustrations and Bible verses, until the presentation is personalized and has become a part of him.

On-The-Job Training

Each class climaxes when the teams go out on actual witnessing calls. During the first few weeks, the trainees will observe their trainers share, which we call On-the-Job Training (OJT).

Then each subsequent week, the trainees will progressively take a more active role as they share more and more of the Gospel presentation. Eventually, the trainees will be sharing the whole Gospel presentation under the guidance of their trainers.

The trainer is available if the situation becomes too difficult for the trainees to handle. By the end of the semester, trainees will not only have seen the gospel shared, but will have personally presented it as well.

Multiplication

EE teaches church leaders to start small and build a strong ministry. When one trained pastor puts this multiplication process into practice, after a period of only four semesters, his church would have equipped 81 personal soul-winners. Winning souls will transform the life of any church. Multiplication takes place when the trainees become trainers, and each one equips two new trainees. The process of spiritual multiplication comes right out of 2 Timothy 2:2— “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others”.

Growth

Laymen who have been trained grow spiritually at incredible rates. One pastor says, “I would have EE in my church even if we never see a single convert added to our church because of what the training does in the spiritual growth of our people”. Grow, they do. And grow their churches, they do too.

It is EE’s intention that every ministry in the local church be strengthened and enhanced as a result of EE’s implementation. And when EE is properly done, that strengthening becomes apparent!

What is XEE?

EE itself is more than 40 years old and although it has been revised periodically, many of the teaching methods employed were from an earlier generation.

A New Approach…

We have discovered that for many (though not all, which is why we have kept the standard diagnostic question available) the concept of “eternal life” and “death”, which the EE presentation uses, were no longer perceived as relevant by sections of our secular, post modern society. XEE has been designed specifically to address a more burning question in the minds of many non-Christians, that is; how can they make sense out of their life NOW.

XEE’s new approach will help us to present the gospel to the X-generation with the emphasis on the “NOW” element of knowing God and that knowing God can in fact, have a positive impact in a person’s life today which is in line with the theme in John 10:10. The gospel remains the same but the initial approach is more fitted to many non-Christians’ immediate felt needs.

Shortly after his inauguration, President Reagan is reported to have met with his cabinet and staff to discuss the utter importance of their committing themselves to a course of action designed to rescue America from the doldrums of moral and economic stagnation into which the country had drifted. As the discussion progressed and the questions and doubts began to be voiced, the president looked at his colleagues and said simply,

“If not us, who? If not now, when?"
